Gellability zone for aluminium alkoxides
نویسندگان
چکیده
Ethyl acetoacetate modi®ed aluminium sec-butoxide can be hydrolysed and gelled with alkaline, neutral or acidic media within a pH range of 3.0±8.5. Alumina precipitation occurs if pH values at any point in the sol±gel transition are outside this range. Nine dierent gelling agents have been evaluated for pH dependence of gel point. Based on stoichiometric considerations, only those systems with a pH of 5.7±7.7 at their gel points can be fully hydrolysed before gelling and the extent of hydrolysis is reduced with an increase in the acidity/basicity of the system. In NaOH/HNO3 hydrolysed precursors, the extent of hydrolysis at the gel point is about 55%. An unhydrolysed precursor has a pH of 6.4 which increases rapidly as aluminium hydroxide formation begins and a pH of 5.7±7.7 for complete hydrolysis prior to gelling is only possible with weak acids, weak alkalis, surfactant solutions and standard buers. pH data in the solto gel-transition is measured for NaOH, NH4OH, soya-PC, Milli-Q water, a buer of pH 7.0, standard solution of Tris-HCl, phenol, acetic and nitric acid. Based on observations a pH dependent ``gellability zone'' is proposed with the sol±gel-precipitate states existing at the inside±periphery±outside of this zone.

Halogen-containing tetrametallic aluminium alkoxides.
New halogen-containing tetrametallic aluminium alkoxides of formula [Al{(mu-OEt)2AlMeCl}3] ( 2-cis; 2-trans), and [Al{(mu-OEt)2AlBr2}3] ( 4), have been synthesized by combining Al(OEt)3 and Me2AlCl (for 2) or EtAlBr2 (for 4). They were fully characterized by (1H, 27Al) NMR, IR, mp, elemental analysis, and single-crystal X-ray diffractometry. The chloride analogue of 4, [Al{(mu-OEt)2AlCl2}3] ( 3...

ABSTRACT Depending on the reaction conditions, different aluminium dialkylmalonate derivatives were obtained by reaction of aluminium alkoxides Al(OR)3 (R = Et, iPr, tBu) with dialkylmalonates, viz. Al(malonate)3 (malonate = dimethyl, diethyl, di-iso-propyl and di-tert-butyl malonate), Al2(OiPr)4(malonate)2 (malonate = di-iso-propyl and di-tert-butyl malonate), Al2(OiPr)2(di-iso-propylmalonate)...

The synthesis of novel, homoleptic group 13 alkoxides is presented. M(OCH(CH2NR2)2)3, where M=Al, Ga, In and R=Me, Et, are characterised by room temperature NMR spectroscopy and single-crystal XRD showing the monomeric nature of all aminoalcoholates. Graphical abstract
متن کاملAluminium toxicity in plants: internalization of aluminium into cells of the transition zone in Arabidopsis root apices related to changes in plasma membrane potential, endosomal behaviour, and nitric oxide production.
The extent of aluminium internalization during the recovery from aluminium stress in living roots of Arabidopsis thaliana was studied by non-invasive in vivo microscopy in real time. Aluminium exposure caused rapid depolarization of the plasma membrane. The extent of depolarization depends on the developmental state of the root cells; it was much more extensive in cells of the distal than in th...
متن کاملStudies in Vitamin A 22 . OPPENAUER OXIDATION OF VITAMIN
The merit of the Oppenauer oxidation (Oppenauer, 1937; reviewed by Djerassi, 1951) using aluminium alkoxides and a hydrogen acceptor, is that unsaturated alcohols can be converted to aldehydes and ketones without affecting the ethylenic linkages. Applied to vitamin A alcohol it ought to yield retinene, (vitamin A1 aldehyde) as the primary product. Hawkins & Hunter (1944a), using aluminium isopr...
